Our Story

Linda and Ann Poteet – or Linda Golden and Ann Hunsaker – were born in Alvarado, Texas. The sisters grew up very close – sharing the same ideas, secrets, hopes and dreams. After high school, each married, but continued to have a close bond. During this period, each gave birth to a daughter.

Linda pursued a career in office management and sales, yet continued to satisfy her creative talents by producing artwork for family and friends. In addition, her keen interest in gardening led to a comprehensive knowledge of growing and caring for house plants. This pursuit progressed into a business of supplying and maintaining plants for hotels and commercial buildings. The live plants in our courtyard and entry walk are cared for daily as a living tribute to Linda’s life and contributions to Sisters.

In the late 1970’s, Ann opened the first boutique on the Island of Providenciales in the British West Indies. Then a hideaway for the DuPonts, Roosevelts, Rockefellers, and other prominent families, the island presented a challenge in sourcing merchandise that would appeal to this selective group—a challenge Ann embraced with a heartfelt desire to please her clientele.

Continued sailing adventures brought Ann to South Padre Island. In 1986, the sisters decided to join forces – founding Sisters Trading Company. Each sister had her own abilities: Linda with artistic skills, Ann with concepts and vision. Both brought with them a true love for their customers and open hearts that naturally create the welcoming, joyful feel we call “Sisters”. The sisters continually strove to reach out and fill the store with the latest in original designs, hand-crafted objects, art, collectibles and antiques along with gourmet food items. They often hosted trunk shows for silversmiths and artists that have gone on to become famous in their own right.

Fast forward to May of 2016, the Sisters expanded into a newly built 5,500 square foot, signature retail space. While the retail business has stayed strong for almost 4 decades, the interior design and renovation side has grown by leaps and bounds. With Linda’s passing in 2020, Ann continues to serve as the working matriarch, guiding influence and mentor.

Ann’s daughter, Stefani Harrison, realized her dream of second generation ownership by returning full-time to the business in 2019. Stefani brings a tireless work ethic, passion for retail, a soul-placed desire to please, an eye for curating our incredible merchandise and a true love of our clientele.

Over the years, Sisters Trading Company has evolved into Sisters Interiors but the most important aspect of the business continues to be excellent customer service, attention to detail, and making life both joyful and beautiful!
