Every painted fish, every checkered corner and every warm hello at Sisters began with two girls from Alvarado, Texas who were never far apart. This is the story of how a little trading company on South Padre Island became a home for art, antiques and design, and how it stays in the family.

Two Little Girls, Thick as Thieves
Linda and Ann Poteet grew up in Alvarado, Texas, close in the way only sisters can be. They grew up, married and each had a daughter of her own. Yet no matter where life took them, their paths kept curving back toward each other.

Providenciales · Late 1970s
An Island Boutique and a Sailor’s Heart
Ann opened her very first boutique on Providenciales in the British West Indies, a quiet island retreat for some very discerning families. Finding treasures for people who had seen it all gave her an eye for the unexpected. Then the wind did what wind does: her sailing travels carried her to a sandy barrier island off the Texas coast called South Padre.

Linda
An Artist with a Green Thumb
Back on the mainland, Linda worked in office management and sales and made artwork for everyone she loved. Her love of gardening grew, quite literally, into a business supplying and caring for houseplants in hotels and commercial buildings. If you have ever paused to admire the living plants along our courtyard and entry walk, you have met a little of Linda.

Sisters Trading Company Opens Its Doors
In 1986 the sisters finally joined forces: Linda bringing the artistry, Ann the concepts and vision. They called it Sisters Trading Company and filled it with original designs, hand-crafted objects, art, collectibles, antiques and gourmet goodies.
Early on they hosted trunk shows for silversmiths and artists, a few of whom went on to become famous. Word spread about a shop where the service was personal, the details mattered, and everyone left smiling.

2901 Padre Boulevard · May 2016
A Home of Our Very Own
Thirty years in, Sisters moved into a newly built, 5,500-square-foot signature showroom, and Sisters Trading Company became Sisters Interiors. A red piano by the door now does the welcoming.
More room to play meant more room to grow. Our interior design and renovation work took off and is now the fastest-growing part of what we do, bringing a little Sisters magic into homes all over the island.

The Next Generation · 2019
Still in the Family, Still Full of Heart
In 2019, Ann’s daughter Stefani Harrison came home to Sisters full time, the second generation to carry the torch. She curates our collections and looks after every customer like family.
In 2020 we said goodbye to Linda. Her artistry lives on in every painted detail and every plant along the walk. And Ann is still right here as our working matriarch, mentor and guiding light.
